CALLINGTON-based company Ginsters was stunned to discover that more than half the nation pronounced its name incorrectly. The majority, it seems from a study of 1,600 people, pronounce the word with a soft g, ie, Jinsters rather than the appropriate hard g. Marketing controller at Ginsters, Larry File said: ?Having been around for almost forty years, with millions savouring our snacks day-to-day, we were amused to hear so many fans failing to pronounce our name correctly.? The debate began after a member of staff encountered an online university forum in which students were discussing the correct pronunciation of the brand. Some students even travelled to Cornwall to let locals settle the argument. Mr File said: ?It?s quite understandable that so many consumers get the name wrong. They no doubt imagine ?gin and tonic? or ?ginger? and immediately reach for the j. Of course, as long as people are enjoying our products, it doesn?t really matter how they read the label.?
