A POST in Saudi Arabia has proved too good an opportunity to miss for former West Devon councillor Shaun Watchorn. Mr Watchorn recently resigned from his seat on Tavistock?s North ward and took up his old job working with British Airways, after the company asked him to come back. He has been a member of the council for almost six years, following his resignation from BA systems in 2000. Mr Watchorn has always lived in Tavistock but said it was only when he finished at BA that he was hit by the ?politics bug? and decided to stand as a councillor. He flew out to the Middle East last Wednesday to work with the Royal Saudi Airforce ? teaching new recruits on how to use navigational equipment. ?I have thoroughly enjoyed being a councillor but I was approached in September to return to BA systems and offered a contract in Saudi Arabia,? said Mr Watchorn. ?I thought long and hard and felt it was too good to miss. ?I would like to thank the people of Tavistock North.? Leader of West Devon Borough Council, James McInnes, said: ?We are very sorry to lose Councillor Watchorn but we are very pleased that he had this particular opportunity and we wish him every success.? A by-election will be held within 35 days of West Devon Borough Council receiving letters from two people requesting an election be held.
