I READ with interest a letter in last week's Times, reference the renovation of lines in Tavistock car parks.

I find myself in total agreement with your contributor, in his despair at the planning abilities of the local council. If they are intent on causing the maximum amount of disruption to the shoppers of West Devon, when, oh, when, will they ever learn?

Saturday would have been a much better day to have closed the car park in question.

For my own part, I contented myself with parking in Meadowlands and hitch-hiking to the town centre from there. In future, when placing my motor vehicle within the despotic, linearly oppressive constraints of the council's tyrannical line markings, my memory will be immediately drawn to this outrageous occurrence.

Are we to believe that the efforts of anti-globalisation protestors are all in vain? Switch on, Tavistock.
