WEIR Quay Sailing Club held their first spring series dinghy race of the season on Saturday afternoon on the River Tamar in light south westerly force 2 to 3 cool winds.

Ten boats sailed a three-lap triangular course between the clubhouse and Cargreen, which mysteriously changed to a rectangular one after an extra mark was laid at the end of the first lap.

Sarah and Tim Williams showed the whole fleet a clean pair of heels as they took off in their asymetrically rigged 29 ER to cross the finishing line almost a full lap ahead of the chasing Wayfarers.

A close tussle for second and third place ensued between Rob Brereton in Wayfarer 'Popple' and Peter Carter in 'Magic' with Popple getting the advantage on the finishing line by 15 seconds after an hour of sailing.

Fourth place went to Megan Fell in her Laser.

The slow handicap race was won by Ian Brooks in Mirror 'Marnen' beating Tony Newman's 'Nyinr' by a minute with Tim Williams in Privateer 'Fluid'.
