Cullompton 4

Okehampton 1

ARGYLE'S recent good run came to an abrupt end with this heavy defeat against a poor Cullompton side.

Argyle, back to a full strength side compared with the one put out last week, never found any rhythm.

Cullompton were short of players and played two who had just played for their first team against Crediton and were in total control of the game.

Playing against a blustery wind, Argyle played some neat football with players making themselves available and having plenty of movement. They passed the ball well but could not find the killer ball to create an opening.

The midfield of Cullompton began to run the show, winning every tackle and pushing forward at every opportunity. Argyle's defence held firm under constant pressure, but every time they cleared the ball it came straight back.

Cullompton had some long-range efforts which were way off target, but one lapse in concentration allowed the striker acres of space and he sweetly struck the ball home.

After a half-time roasting Argyle started the second period more positively. Chris Wills came on to replace Graham Soby in defence. Playing with the wind behind them Argyle forced Cullompton back and they scored a delightful equaliser through Jason Sandford from a narrow angle.

That was the turning point as Argyle within a minute conceded a sloppy goal then hardly touched the ball again - if they did they gave it straight back to Cullompton.

Cullompton scored two more goals as Argyle conceded ground and found it hard to clear the halfway line before they gave possession away and Cullompton again were on the attack.

This was one of Argyle's worst performances of the season. They lacked passion and commitment. But this week they have the chance to put it right as they entertain Cullompton, kick-off 3pm. All players to meet at the clubhouse at 2pm.
