THE West Devon sale of two paintings by well-known local artists is set to boost desperately needed funds of a children?s charity.

Plympton-based artists Alan Kingwell and Mags Quennell are holding an exhibition and sale of their work at The Old Police Station Café in Princetown this weekend.

Alan has fought his way back to painting, following an accident on Dartmoor two years ago which almost resulted in an arm amputation.

His picture, Moonlight, is currently on show in the Mall Galleries in London. It was chosen as one of the top 50 paintings in the Daily Mail?s national Not the Turner Prize art competition, which attracted more than 15,000 entries from artists throughout the country.

All proceeds from the sale, an oil painting of Staple Tor by Alan, and Pink and Purple Irises, a silk painting by Mags, will go directly to the Children?s Hospice South West charity.

Also on show at the exhibition will be a wide variety of art, including original landscapes and seas in oil, wooden plates and boxes decorated with Celtic designs, silk paintings and wildlife pyrography.

The exhibition and sale has been organised by Alan and Mags along with café owners Doug and Jan Jenner and Linda Downing, of the Buckland Monachorum Friends of Children?s Hospice South West Group.

Linda said she was delighted at the generosity shown by Alan and Mags and hoped the sale on Saturday and Sunday would be a huge boost to hospice funds.
