A TYRE firm in Tavistock has won recognition in a national competition, for its 'heavenly' service to customers.

Tavistock Tyres was a winner in the Saint of the Year competition run by tyre company Bridgestone/Firestone UK — the award scheme is so called because its symbol is a tyre fitter with a tyre halo.

The competition was designed to reward the best performing members of the First Stop dealership network.

Owner Simon Allen was thrilled that the Plymouth Road industrial estate dealership was one of just 13 winners across Britain.

He said: 'We had a good result in the competition last year so we didn't really expect to be a winner again this year, especially as it was judged on different criteria this time.

'There was some stiff competition and we thought the bigger companies would have the edge but this proves we can compete with them.'

As winner of the saint of the year award, Simon can look forward to a weekend break in a European city with his partner, Maria Jessop.
