A CRIME-busting plan to protect the safety of the people of West Devon has been drawn up by a multi-agency partnership in the borough. The strategy, currently in draft form, highlights a range of key priorities affecting the borough relating to alcohol, domestic abuse, crime, communities and diversity, children and young people and crime prevention. The issues were identified following an intensive crime audit carried out over the last few months and each priority maps out a way forward over the next three years. Now the Safer West Devon Partnership, a multi-agency forum set up six years ago as part of the Government?s co-ordinated approach to tackle crime and disorder, wants to know what people think of the strategy. The document has been distributed to hundreds of organisations as part of the consultation process, which must be completed by the end of this month. Cllr Peter Hill, chairman of the Partnership, and also a West Devon borough councillor, said: ?The strategy is very important in meeting the needs of the residents in West Devon and this is an ideal opportunity for people to have their say on what is proposed. ?The partnership has already achieved a great deal over the years by working together to improve community safety and tackle crime and anti social behaviour. The strategy paves the way for that hard work to continue.? Latest Home Office figures say that the borough of West Devon is the 12th safest area to live in the country out of 376 districts nationwide. But Cllr Hill said that just because the statistics are impressive, the partnership was not being complacent. He said: ?As a partnership, we have already achieved a real and sustainable reduction in crime whilst improving the safety and well being for the community as a whole. ?We want to improve on those improvements.?
