PUPILS of two Tavistock schools will be encouraged to walk or cycle to school from next month as a new footpath is set to open along Crowndale Road. The path will link Tavistock Community Primary School and Tavistock College with Plymouth Road. The need for a path was identified in the School Travel Plan, drawn up following consultation with pupils, teachers and parents. It will allow pupils of the two schools to walk in safety along Crowndale Road away from traffic. The footpath will run parallel to Crowndale Road along the edge of the school playing fields under a corridor of mature trees. Devon County Council has worked with West Devon Borough Council?s landscape officer and an independent arboricultural consultant to minimise impact and safeguard the trees. The new footway should open in mid-April and it is hoped the path can be extended later to the recreational grounds further along Crowndale Road.
