STAFF, pupils, parents and governors at Lifton School attended an emotional farewell assembly for their headteacher, Kui Holmes, at the end of term, when the pupils sang songs, read poems and presented her with leaving cards, gifts and flowers.

The school community is sad to say goodbye to Mrs Holmes as she retires after 16 years at Lifton.

Mrs Holmes joined the school in 1998 as a teacher, and became head in September 2006.

She said: 'Being headteacher at Lifton School has been a deeply rewarding and often exhilarating experience.

'Everyone in the whole community has been very supportive of my vision to create an industrious and vibrant school in the heart of the community. I am very proud of their happy and confident children.'
