I WONDER if I am alone in not being aware that the demolition and building work at the Radmore Site on the Plymouth road included in its planning application the total and devastating removal of all the surrounding trees.

I had read the application displayed by the property but failed to read any mention of the removal of the trees lining the property.

As a resident of the Westbridge Cottages and a non-car owner I daily walk along that part of the highway.

In both winter and summer it provided shade and shelter and formed, with the opposite trees, a natural beautiful entrance to the town.

In this world of hard brick and mortar is it not even more important to make every effort to preserve the beauty of nature whenever possible?

Perhaps the planning committee of the council could enlighten both myself and other like-minded people of the reason they gave planning permission for this aspect of the development to be carried out?

It may be put forward that new sapling trees will be planted when building work is completed — but for them to replace what we have lost and been deprived of will take a generation of growth.

I don't have that generation of time and greatly miss this part of creation that a signature on a piece of paper has taken away from us.
