A YOUNG Okehampton woman was among those 'on the rostrum' at a nationwide science competition. Ruth Hillier was among almost 2,000 students who took part in the British Biology Olympiad. The competition involved a series of online-based examinations to test students' understanding of all aspects of biology. Ruth, who is an upper sixth former at Shebbear College, achieved a bronze award for her performance and was among the top 15% of students who took part. She will receive her award at a ceremony in London's Imperial College in July where the guest of honour is the distinguished scientist Prof Colin Blakemore. The top students will represent the UK in the International biology Olympiad in India later this year.
