A WEST Devon woman is donning her trainers with the aim of raising £1,000 for a charity that helped her four year old niece, who lost her battle against cancer last year.

Sandra Bunt, from Tavistock, is busy training for Cancer Research UK's annual Race for Life in June, which will see her running 5k around Plymouth Hoe.

Sandra's niece, Kimberley Stacey, died at her home in Liskeard after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer at 18 months old. She had surgery to remove brain tumours and had to learn to walk and talk again, but sadly after a while, scans revealed five new tumours on Kimberley's spine, and she died in October.

Sandra will be joined for the race by her sister and Kimberley's mother Valerie. Both women are trying to raise £1,000 each in a mission they are calling 'A K for Kim'.

Sandra said: 'I will be very proud to hopefully cross the line — it will be something to give back for all the help Kim received in hospital.'

Anyone who would like to help Sandra reach her target can donate by contacting her on 07789 212928 or go to http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/k-4-kim">www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/k-4-kim
