AN OKEHAMPTON woman is planning to take a bite out of the Big Apple when she takes to its streets in November to run the renowned New York City Marathon. Mandy Howard will be tackling the 26-mile metropolitan route to raise money for the charity Get Kids Going! which gives disabled children and young people the chance to participate in sport. Mandy, who has only recently got into running, said she was looking forward to the challenge of lining up on the start line on Sunday, November 6, with other more experienced runners. ?This will be my very first marathon but I have run three half-marathon and other small races to build up for it,? she said. Mandy, who works at Heinz in Okehampton, has been training for the event since April. She would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to help by sponsoring her, and can be contacted on 07940 432484. Get Kids Going! is Britain?s leading charity for the New York Marathon, each year they send more than 300 runners to the race to raise money for their work.
