TWENTY THREE Meavy ?Maids?, parents and friends from Meavy School, sponsored by the Rock Inn at Yelverton, braved the sweltering heat on Sunday week to run/walk in the annual Cancer Research Race for Life in Central Park, Plymouth.

Team organiser, Helen Langton, was delighted by the turnout, not only for the support given to Cancer Research in sponsorship money, but to the courage of the women involved, many of whom have never been in anything like this before, but have used the event to challenge themselves physically.

It is an all women?s event and this year there were more than 3,000 women supporting a charity, where cancer seems to ?touch? the lives of everyone in one way or another, whether it is a grandparent, parent, brother, sister or friend.
