'ONE of the funniest things I have ever seen' was one of the audience reactions to the Project X Factor — a show by young rugby players from Tavistock RFC.

The evening of entertainment, performed at Tavistock College just before Christmas, saw a number of impressive 'acts' before the club's answer to judges Piers Morgan, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell, in the shape of Tavistock RFC coach Will Reed, his wife Sherrell and Tavistock College sports teacher Tristan Forster.

The fun filled event raised £950 which will be split between the Tavistock RFC Colts' tour to Amsterdam and the boys and girls rugby team of Tavistock College.

Master of Ceremonies for the night were 'Ant and Dec' — other wise known as Hammy and Welly.

Parading their talents and entertaining the packed audience were groups such as the Sugar Plum Fairies, the Weather Girls, the Wurzels, Take That and YMCA; also taking part were the Dirty Dancing team of Robin Jones and Charlie Hubbard, two brave lads who went to Salsa classes in Plymouth for a month to prepare for the big night. The Spice Girls were doing their bit when they were joined by the 'Spice Girls' boys to spice up the competition.

A Mr and Miss World competition was won by Callum Thompson and Karl Rowe - who were doing well until they were surprised by judges Tristan Forster and Will Reed, who came up dressed in drag to congratulate them!

Even Colts' captain Matt Langman, who had a dislocated knee, was one of several injured youth players who joined in the fun on stage.

Sherrell Reed, who organised the event, told the Times: 'This was the second event we have done; it was a real struggle to organise and I said I would never do it again but everybody wants to do another one. Somebody said they could not stop laughing all night, and somebody else it was the funniest thing they had ever seen!'

'I would just like to thank everybody who took part and all those who helped put it on such as the hairdresser, make up people and sound man. It was a very special evening.'
