TAVISTOCK RFC U15s hosted a round robin against Okehampton and Brixham. For most of the match Tavistock held Okehampton to a scoreline of two tries apiece only to see the Okes win it with two tries in the last five minutes. With Okehampton having 65% of possession in the first half Tavistock had to play open inventive rugby when in attack. With three regulars out it was through fresh faces George Mills and Ashley Dobson that Tavistock were able to field a complete XV. Ashley?s pace on the wing and ability to cut inside when being closed down were enough to make him man of the match. In the second half Tavistock won more possession as the forwards contested harder for the ball at breakdowns. In the second of two matches Tavistock showed a fast open style of play with strong direct running. Aaron Churchill was man of the match against Brixham as he started to think about how best to set up support players before being snuffed out by the opposition after surges into their territory. He poached the ball through interception to run through and score under the posts for the last act of the game. Euan McCall scored two tries after dancing through most of the Brixham side. Jake Chinn, James Shaw and Mark Smith were all involved in the best try of the day as the ball was sprayed around among the forwards, bursting through in continuous support. The next event is on April 4, the U15s Sevens festival at Crediton . Two training sessions are planned for Thursday March 24 and Thursday March 31, 6pm to 7.30pm at Sandy Park taken by Robin. Tavistock U12s rugby home to Exeter Tavistock U12s 19 & 47 Exeter U12s 0 & 7 EXETER brought a large and mixed ability squad to Sandy Park on Sunday with an equally large set of supporters. But the visitors met disappointment as Tavistock overwhelmed them in both matches. The homes squad?s more advanced skill in all areas dominated the games. The forwards were quicker and stronger at set-pieces and in the loose, stealing lineouts and turnover ball at the rucks. The backs? defensive tackling was unbreakable with two on one tackling driving Exeter back, even when they had possession. Try-scorers in the first match were Joe Hair, Barnaby Frost and Jack Morgan. In the second game the honours went to Elliot Hoyte, Callum Thompson, Philip Snell, Daniel Oner, two for Elliott Northmore and another for fly half Jack Morgan. The kicking duties were shared by Morgan, Josh Stephens and Josh Leeson. Tavistock also welcomed two new signings, James Lockley and Tom Simson, playing in their first game for the town.
