MORE than £4,000 has been raised by the Rotary Club of Tavistock to help send relief to the areas stricken by the earthquake in Pakistan. Rotary Club members sprung into action by organising an emergency collection to send survival equipment to relieve some of the suffering and help the huge number of people made homeless. The help is provided through Rotary International?s Shelterbox scheme. Each Shelterbox contains a ten-person tent, sleeping bags, cooking utensils and water filtration equipment sufficient for ten people for up to three months. Their collections on Bedford Square throughout the week and at Morrison?s supermarket on Sunday raised £4,088, which is enough to fund eight of the 600 shelterboxes already sent so far. Club president Russell Woolcock said: ?The response from the people of Tavistock has been magnificent and we thank everybody for their generous contributions.? Anybody wishing to make a contribution can send cheques, payable to the Rotary Club of Tavistock, to Peter Baron at 16 Church Lea, Whitchurch PL19 9PS. Donations can also be left at the Mayflower Galleries in West Street. And in East Cornwall, Callington Rotary has a collection point for donations towards Shelter Boxes, in ?Pridhams Electrical Shop? Fore Street, Callington.
