TAVISTOCK Rotary Club held a successful five-mile races and junior fun run, on Sunday.

Cool cloudy weather gave this year's entrants ideal running conditions.

West Devon Mayor, Cllr Donald Horn sounded the start of the ladies race at the council offices car park at 10am the race then continued across the viaduct, along the old railway track to Crease Lane then out to Mill Hill quarry and back again, a distance of five-miles. At 10.10am, 19 youngsters set off on the junior run 1.5-miles from the car park, along the viaduct towards Crease Lane and back again.

By popular demand there was also a men's race this year, with 29 runners setting of at 11am on the same course as the ladies. First lady home was Anne Luke in 31.14 minutes, second, Sharon Daw 35.15 and third, Sally Cole in 40.16.

The men's race was won by Adam Holland in 28.15mins, second was M Course in 30.27 and third, peter Bazley in 33mins.

There was one wheelchair entrant, Matthew Brewster, who completed the course in 1hr 15.45.

The junior race was won by George Bumford, with Beth Watmore second, and Charlie Shipton, third. Medals were presented by Councillor Horn and Rotary President Clive Fairchild.

Tavistock Rotary Club would like to thank Tavistock Athletics Club and West Devon Borough Council for their help in organising the event to everyone who helped out on the day, Active Sports and the Market Inn for their sponsorship. All monies raised will be donated to local charities.
