OKEHAMPTON Rotary Club held its second annual charity golf day at Ashbury on July 6.
In the glorious sunshine, 94 players took part in a shotgun start on the immaculate Beeches course.
The club welcomed a mixed field, including a strong contingent of Rotary clubs in the area, including Holsworthy, Dartmoor Vale and even members of the Redruth Club.
People from local businesses and golf clubs also played.
The day raised over £4,000, which when coupled with another day held in May, gave a total raised for the club’s charity fund of over £7,200. These funds will be used to support local community needs through activities, grants and donations in the forthcoming year.
In addition to the team entries, the club has expressed thanks to the holes sponsors from local businesses. The Rotarians in Okehampton also provided a generous array for draw prizes which in itself raised nearly £500.
The refreshment tent on the course was manned by the Ladies of the Inner Wheel, keeping the players refreshed in the sunshine.
President Rob Harman thanked Simon and Joan Essex for their generosity in providing the golf course and its facilities to the club, including the use of the course, the catering at lunch and in the evening and their unstinting generosity in supporting the Rotary Club’s community and charitable endeavours.
