CALLINGTON Rotary Club has announced that Ruth Blakey, an 18-year-old A-level student at Tavistock College, has won its annual Rotary RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) sponsorship for 2010.

Ruth (pictured right) was selected from 20 candidates for this year's RYLA programme in what the selection panel described as an 'outstanding group of candidates'.

Having already gained 9 GCSEs and a BTEC First Diploma in Business Studies, Ruth is currently working to gain three good grades at A-level to enable her to pursue her ambition to read Theatre Studies at university in September this year.

The summer 2010 RYLA programme, based at Brimpts Farm, on Dartmoor, will see Ruth, with successful candidates from other Plymouth and Cornwall district Rotary clubs, taking part in an intensive programme of lecture room and outdoor activities, incorporating team building tasks, aimed at assisting young people to expand their leadership and organisational skills.
