Tavistock 1st XV 10
Old Technicians 8
A STEREOTYPICAL Tavistock game where the ball never really saw a lot of light outside continual rucking and mauling.
The first try came after a strong start form Tavistock, with Lee Easton using all his experience to find a gap close to the try-line. A few moments later, retaliation saw the referee advise Mat Cole, Tavistock's captain, to leave the park permanently along with an Old Tech player.
Apart form this early setback, Tavistock kept to the task and caused the Old Techs to give away a number of penalties which were not converted. In the dust of frequent fracas play continued to be far from fluent, apart from some strong driving mauls from the Tavistock pack.
Totally against the run of play the Old Techs managed to score ten minutes before half-time as a result of an open side overlap.
In reply the Tavistock inside-half broke away on the blind-side after a scrum midfield, but lost the ball forward as he attempted to put it down over the line.
The second half could only be described as stagnant with both sides having their fair share of the ball without making much of an impression in either half.
As legs became lead, Tavistock began to give away penalties within reasonable distance of the posts. Eventually, the Techs slotted a penalty ten minutes from time, leaving Tavistock with it all to do.
As a finale to a solid game from the Tavistock backs, wingers and centres united to career down the touchline until a hole appeared for Robin Weldon to roll through and score.
A hard fought game lacking phases of play, with Tavistock domineering up front against bulky opposition.
Tries: Lee Easton, Robin Weldon.
