A BRATTON Clovelly man, who had to pull out of the London Marathon at the eleventh hour because of an accident at work, this week said he is grateful to all the people who donated to his chosen charity — the Down's Syndrome Association.
Robert James was devastated when doctors advised him not to take part in the marathon, after months of preparation.
But the good news is that all the money Robert raised has gone to the charity — a total of £3,084.
Robert, who raised £2,500 of the money through a charity auction at the Bratton Clovelly Inn in March, went back to his sponsors last week to give their donations back — but none of them would take it.
'The support I have had has been fantastic both from the people within Bratton Clovelly and outside,' said the farmer, whose 13-year-old daughter Sarah has Down Syndrome.
'The Down Syndrome Association is delighted with the money and I want to thank everyone who donated to the cause.'
A regular fundraiser for the charity, Robert is organising a ball at the Eggesford Countryside Hotel in the autumn.
