FILMING the hugely popular BBC programme Antiques Roadshow in Tavistock Pannier Market will be a big boost for the whole town, according to members of the council who met last week. During Tuesday?s full town council meeting, members gave the thumbs up to an official invitation to the BBC to come and film during May, with the show being broadcast some time in September. Cllr Norma Woodcock said: ?I am extremely pleased the Antiques Roadshow is coming. ?I think it will be an enormous boost ? it will bring people to the town, it will focus on the pannier market and I am sure there will be a sense of what it is like when it is actually working. ?I also understand the reeve is making as many arrangements as possible that the market traders affected by the closure are able to obtain some casual employment during the broadcasting.? Cllr Woodcock said although there would be some loss of income to the council, as the market would not be able to operate normally for three days, the event should be viewed as an investment long-term. Cllr Brian Trew said it would be important to liaise fully with the pannier market traders, so they could be kept ?on board? both before and during the filming of the show. The BBC is due to visit Tavistock on May 9 to 12 inclusive, when crews will take over some of the Guildhall car park, the pannier market and the town hall.
