NEW waiting restrictions on a variety of roads throughout Tavistock came under the spotlight at a meeting in the town last week.
Devon County Council published the amendment order last month and the list of roads was considered by the town council's finance committee at its meeting last Tuesday.
Roads which will have double yellow lines along certain parts include Anderton Lane, Buzzard Road, Down Road, Plymouth Road, Grenville Drive, Deer Park Road, Callington Road and Whitchurch Road.
Waiting, stopping and unloading restrictions will apply to certain parts of West Avenue, Church Hill, Market Road and Pepper Street. Many of the changes apply to junctions where visibility can be restricted by parked cars.
Cllr Dick Eberlie said the double yellow lines due to be applied to Callington Road, by the Catholic church, could cause problems.
He said: 'Do we know if the county council has contacted the Catholic church? There are a huge number of cars that park there on a Sunday.'
Cllr Philip Sanders said: 'It's going to have quite a significant impact. If you move cars away from Callington Road, the next obvious place to go is Greensway Road, and that's also no waiting at any time.
'The church does have a limited amount of spaces that people can use if they are disabled, but undoubtedly this is going to have an impact.'
Cllr Mandy Ewings said: 'We also have to bear in mind the 750 houses that will eventually be built up that way. I am not sure how much forward thinking has been done here.'
Cllr Ewings said she was slightly concerned that Violet Lane had not been included in the list — she believed highways officers had agreed it should be covered by new restrictions.
The consultation period regarding the new waiting restrictions amendment order was due to end on April 6.
The aim of the restrictions is to prevent obstructive parking, improve visibility at junctions and aid the passage of larger vehicles.
The amendment states: 'Specifically the order will aim to improve the amenities of the areas through which the roads run.'
