CAPSIZE drills, boat handling and search patterns were the focus of a special training day held by the RAPID UK charity at Roadford Lake near Lewdown recently.
The event was run by RAPID?s boat crew (pictured below) for the search and rescue team.
RAPID provide
assistance in disasters all over the world, such as earthquakes, mudslides and floods. The boat crew was set up in 2000 following the devastating floods in Mozambique when the charity identified the need for a dedicated boat crew.
RAPID volunteers from as far afield as Gloucestershire, Yorkshire and London attended the session at Roadford?s watersports centre, which provided an opportunity for the two sectors of the charity to work together.
Julia Hobday, boat crew organiser, said: ?The training day was enjoyed by everyone. Now that other members of RAPID UK have basic boat handling skills, the boat crew can call on them to assist in the event of a flood disaster.
?The boat crew would like to thank South West Lakes Trust for their tremendous support in allowing us to use their facilities to train, and to the other companies who supported us, such as CDC Instantspace, Solor Wetsuits, Gecko Headgear and Saltrock Clothing.?
