THE Tavistock Criterium — a bike race planned for the town in July this year has been postponed.

Tavistock Wheelers, which belongs to the British Cycling Club, wanted to stage the Criterium on July 11 — the start of carnival week.

But due to a deterioration to some of the streets planned for the race route, the Wheelers felt it had to postpone the event.

Geoff Whitlow, chair of Tavistock Wheelers, said: 'We see this as a postponement of the Tavistock Criterium and not a cancellation, though at this stage it is extremely unlikely to happen this year, due to a busy racing calendar.'
