TAVISTOCK high street is open for business, despite road closure signs causing confusion amongst motorists.

Duke Street, Elbow Lane and Pepper Street are currently closed to vehicles until next Friday (January 31), approximately, in order to repair raised crossings. There is access to shops for vehicles from the end of Brook Street, where it joins Parkwood Road as the one-way system has been suspended.

Devon County Council, as the highway authority, said that the works were to repair loose, damaged paving blocks at the crossings in Tavistock, as reported in the Times on December 26.

Repair works are being undertaken by DCC’s contractor E&JW Glendinning Ltd.

A spokesperson from DCC said: ‘During the works, every effort will be made to minimise disruption to traffic and maintain access for deliveries where possible, although some disruption is unavoidable and for this we would like to apologise.’

Drake Road was closed to traffic for one week — from January 13 — to allow for the crossing to be repaired and work finished one week ahead of schedule.

There is a diversion route in place for the road closures.
