LAST week?s issue of the Times suggested the opening of the new cinema would be a good present for the people of the town, they could go shopping when they visit the new facility and so bring added prosperity to Okehampton. Has the chairman of the planning committee, Cllr Tony Leech, tried to get more than a few groceries at that sort of time? I think not! Now the town clerk has added his opinion in the Western Morning News and the message has been upgraded to ?the best Christmas present ever?. I have to ask exactly what planet these individuals are living on to espouse such twaddle, because without any fear of contradiction, we mere mortals living and working in and around the town would say ?an inner ring road? is by far the biggest asset that we could have. Secondly, a resolution to the farcical saga of the rock displacement in New Road would come streets ahead of the need for a cinema. So why cannot the town council ?get real? and chase proper priorities that would bring true prosperity to the town? Derek Godfrey-Brown Larkbeare Okehampton
