THE lucky winner of the recent Tavistock Eatwise, Eat Local survey run by Tavistock Forward was last week announced as Maggie Pitchford of Horrabridge. Maggie wins the fantastic prize of a cookery course for two people with Masterchef Peter Gorton of the renowned Horn of Plenty restaurant at Gulworthy. The survey is part of the Eatwise, Eat Local campaign which is promoting the benefits of using locally produced foods and drinks. It is running in conjunction with Tavistock?s entry in the South West Best Local Food Town competition, a major regional event in which the town has already secured a coveted place in the finals. John Taylor, chairman of Tavistock Forward which submitted the competition entry, said everyone involved in the event was looking forward to the all-important judges? visit, which has been confirmed as being next Thursday, March 9. Mr Taylor said: ?We are definitely up against Bridport in our category ? we have blown away the competition from Totnes and Honiton ? and we are working on a great itinerary for the judges? visit next week.? Mr Taylor said the Eatwise campaign continued to grow in strength ? stickers have now been produced and will be displayed by shops, restaurants and pubs backing the campaign. A flyer is also being distributed in this week?s Times, giving West Devon residents more information about eating and purchasing locally produced goods. Mr Taylor said: ?The campaign has been a lot of hard work, but it?s been great fun ? it?s very much a team effort and worth it for something we really believe can make a big difference to our area.?
