IT was sweet revenge for Tavistock Bowling Club men?s county trophy team when they played local rivals Bere Alston in their return fixture on Thursday. Tavistock had lost by one shot away from home in May, but reversed the position when the home fixture saw them run out 92-57 victors after winning all four rinks played. Tavistock skips results: Mike Allen 17-15, Malcolm Bloomer 23-15, Roy Northam 23-18 and Clive Jago 29-9. On the Monday, the ladies? section faced a Civil Service team at home in the Top Club competition and lost the match after winning only two of the five rinks played. A similar fate happened to Tavistock men on the Tuesday when they lost their home County Trophy match with CCSA, 63-96. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Brian Davis, Geroge Blackburn and David Perry achieved a creditable 20-20 draw, but Tavistock?s other three rinks all lost, 16-36, 14-12 and 13-19. A mixed team from Plympton were Wednesday?s visitors for a game which Tavistock won 97-79, when winning four of the five rinks played. Skip Ron Cooper and his crew of Brian Ellicott, Ray Meneer and Marlene Paramor won 19-17, while skip Norman Paramor and his team of Vic Stacey, John TImmins and Shirley Blackburn won 16-24. Skip Der Saunders led his crew of George Blackburn, Harvey Leach and Joan Northey to a 18-16 victory, thanks to them picking up one shot on each of the last two ends of their game. Skip Malcolm Bloomer, ably assisted by Wendy Bloomer, Ernie Piper and Frank Welch, won 26-12 after scoring 19 shots in the second half of their game. Skip Marion Allen saw her team of David Perry, Charlie Cummings and Gordon Northey lost 18-20 when their opposition scored six shots over the last five ends. Thursday saw a Tavistock ladies? team facing Plymstock Birds in a two rink league match which ended in a 40-26 victory for Tavistock, who won both rinks by the same 20-13 score. North Tawton were Friday?s visitors for a ladies? friendly, three rink match which ended in victory for Tavistock ladies after they won all three rinks played. The sea front bowling green at Teignmouth was Saturday?s destination for a coachload of players and supporters. The match ended in a 104-96 win for Tavistock when they won three of the five rinks played. Skip Jill Lacayo and her crew of Viv Powell-Thomas, Barry Chappell and Tom Sharpe won 30-10, while skip Norman Paramor led his team of Shirley Blackburn, Albert Townsend and Mike Silcox to a 30-13 win. Skip Sue Silcox and her team of Geoff Cork, Frank Welch and Walter Meek won 19-17.Skips Vic Stacey 13-23, George Blackburn 12-22 ? both lost. Earlier in the week the preliminary rounds of the men?s pairs competition were fought out. At the quarter finals stage Mike Silcox and Ernie Piper defeated Gordon Northey and Bill Ashe, while Barry Chappell and Mike Allen eliminated Derek Bradford and Ray Meneer. Brian Davis and Norman Paramor defeated Mike Felles and Clive Jago, while Vic Stacey and Malcolm Bloomer defeated Frank Welch and Der Saunders. The first semi-final saw Malcolm Bloomer and Vic Stacey through to the final after an extra end was needed to decide the winners against Brian Davis and Norman Paramor. The second semi-final saw Barry Chappell and Mike Alllen progress into the final by beating Mike Silcox and Ernie Piper. The final match is scheduled on club finals weekend in September.
