Okehampton U12s 33 Launceston U12s 14 OKEHAMPTON gained revenge for an earlier narrow defeat against a difficult Launceston outfit. From the start Okehampton gained ground through their forwards and laid siege to the Launceston line. Attempts by Launceston to kick their way out of trouble saw Will Lethbridge tactically sound at full back. Several attempts by Okehampton to force their way over failed due to good Launceston defence. Jordan Lee broke the deadlock and forced his way over to score the first try. Within minutes good play in the backs took play to within ten metres of the line, a good forward surge saw Martin Hann gather the ball and crash over for a good try. Will Lethbridge converted. Simon Fellows, playing his first game, recovered a poor defensive kick by Launceston and ran 25 metres to score a good try in the corner, which Jordan Lee converted. Launceston recovered their composure and from a tapped penalty a barnstorming run by one of their forwards ran through the Okehampton defence to score a good try. At the start of the second half Okehampton gave away an unfortunate penalty close to the line and good Launceston pressure allowed their forwards to score and close the gap. Okehampton retaliated and with the forwards Mike Heard, Matt Harding, Graham Glew and Chris Pyle driving their opponents off the rucks, the half backs Jordan Lee and Dan Curtis began to make space to set up a series of attacks for backs and forwards to drive towards their opponents? line. Chris Knott, collecting the ball after a forward rush, drove over to increase the score. Dan Curtis added the points. Within minutes an excellent period of play took the Okehampton forwards to within 15 metres of their opponents? line, quick ball saw Dan Curtis feed Thomas Mallett whose brilliant angle of running took him straight through the defence to cap a fine win for this emerging side.
