THE final event of the Okehampton Cycle Club summer time trial series last Thursday saw ideal weather conditions providing the last chance to clock a fast time. There was a turnout of eight riders to end the 15 event series.

Andy Retter achieved the best time of the night, clocking 28.51 with Brian Dixon second with 29.48 and Jacky Rice third with 32.09. There were also new personal best times for Dave Baskerville, achieving 34.24, and Nigel Williams with 33.10.

Full results: A Retter 28.51; B Dixon 29.48; Jacky Rice 32.09; M Rice 33.01; N Williams 33.10; J Short 33.24; D Baskerville 34.24; S Clifford 39.41.

The result did not affect the outcome of the club summer time trial series, with Mike Rice topping the table with 106 points. Jacky Rice came second on 100 and Dave Baskerville on 80.

Club members were active last Sunday with Steve Sage continuing his run of good form by taking second place in a 50-mile time trial hosted by the Mid Devon C C with a time of 1.55.12 on the Buckfastleigh to Chudleigh Bridge section of the A 38.

Fellow club member Mike Rice posted a time of 2.22.15 in his first 50 mile event, but Jacky Rice disappointingly was forced to pull out of the event for safety reasons at the start line with a defective front tyre.
