I WOULD like to take this opportunity to welcome the new town mayor's decision to make the Meadows his 'top priority'.

Ever since I moved to Tavistock I have enjoyed the wildlife in the park and have always been grateful that we have such a wonderful tranquil place in the heart of the town.

I do hope that Cllr David Whitcomb will immediately try to action a plan to make sure that the canal is kept free of the awful unsightly rubbish and other debris that it currently contains.

I have noticed recently that there are traffic cones, plastic bottles and bags, a metal and concrete post from the car park, and even an estate agent's board in the water, along with all manner of other rubbish.

Please can we have the Meadows restored to their former glory and have a clean canal to enhance the obviously well looked after lawns and trees?
