LOCAL people have helped West Devon Borough Council bring planning for the area's future to life by starring in a new video which tells the story of Our Plan. Residents, business owners, councillors and staff appear in the production which explains how Our Plan will be an overarching strategic plan for the whole borough for the next 20 years. In the video, a host of different people in various locations list the topics Our Plan will cover including homes, jobs, buildings, energy needs and land use. It was filmed as part of ongoing consultation and publicity about Our Plan in partnership with South Hams District Council. Cllr Philip Sanders, Leader of the Council, said: 'It can be difficult to get people involved with planning strategically for the future. 'People often only give us their views where there is an actual planning application on the table; this can be too late. 'It's important that local people have a say at this early stage as what is decided now impacts on future planning decisions. 'We hope this video will reinforce why it is so important and how it is relevant to all our lives. 'The whole production was created in-house at minimal cost and provides an engaging and entertaining view of this vital initiative.' The short film is 'hosted' by the council's strategic planning officers, Phil Baker and Rebecca Black, who also persuaded local businesses and residents to join in. Among the credits are Hatherleigh Tea Rooms, Tamar Trails Centre, Tavistock Town Council and a number of West Devon residents. There is even a 'cameo' appearance by borough councillor for Okehampton West, Cllr Mike Morse. As well as shaping future development, Our Plan will cover community needs and council services between now and 2031.  The video can be seen on the council's YouTube Channel or by visiting http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/ourplan">www.westdevon.gov.uk/ourplan
