Chagford Reserves 5

Bampton Reserves 0

CHAGFORD Reserves posted their first home win of the season, racked up their best league result thus far and showed some excellent football in the process.

Player-manager Simon Ralph led the way with two goals although everyone contributed their part in the victory.

The home side started brightly and there was little surprise when they took an eleventh minute lead.

The ball was won in midfield and Ralph's through ball fed Joe Whatley, the forward shooting across goal, the ball then nestling in the far corner of the net. Chagford sought to build on this though, when Ralph's sharp volley hit the crossbar, it seemed their luck may be out.

Two minutes later Ralph was to bag his first of the game. Philpott sent Whatley in on goal but, with the angle too sharp, Whatley selflessly pulled the ball back for Ralph to side-foot the ball under the 'keeper and in.

Chagford's play in the second half stepped up a gear and any colly-wobbles were dispelled, as they recovered their impetus. Ralph sent Gavin Forsey through to slide the ball home, Whatley then repeated his earlier pass to Ralph who took his second of the day and Will Hutchison was on hand to tuck the ball in after Philpott's shot came back off a post.

Birthday boy, Jake Rowe, came on fifteen minutes from time and showed he should become a valued member of the squad.

Awliscombe, who hope to avenge their recent loss to the Reserves, visit the Memorial Ground this weekend. Kick-off at 2.15pm.
