RESEARCH into contemporary and historical aspects of Dartmoor will be encouraged with a new research fund set up by the Dartmoor Society. The fund was launched by chairman Dr Tom Greeves at the annual meeting of the society last Saturday, when a cheque for £500 was presented by the editor of Dartmoor Magazine. The fund, intended to stimulate new information about many aspects of Dartmoor, already stands at a four-figure sum. Dr Greeves said the fund was the first major initiative of the society since gaining charitable status in August 2005. He said: ?Our initial target is to raise £25,000 for the fund, and we shall then be in a position to use the interest generated from that sum.? Possible subjects for research include those connected with housing, social issues, the history of the area, and those to help environmentally and socially beneficial use of resources. A special leaflet about the research fund has been produced and can be obtained from the society at PO Box 38, Tavistock, PL19 0XJ or by emailing [email protected]">[email protected]
