FIREFIGHTERS in the Tavistock, Yelverton and Callington areas have been called to three road accidents in the past week.
Two people were taken to Derriford Hospital following a crash involving a Vauxhall Astra on the A386 at Grenofen last Saturday at 11pm.
Two Tavistock appliances attended and heavy duty cutting gear was used to release one girl, who was trapped by her legs. The other female occupant was released prior to the firefighters? arrival. Neither were thought to have life-threatening injuries.
The car, the only vehicle involved, suffered substantial damage and the roof had to be removed to free the trapped occupant. The road was re-opened by police at approximately 2am on Sunday.
The same day, Yelverton fire crew assisted ambulance personnel in releasing two casualties from a car following a crash at Gratton Hill near Yelverton. The incident occurred at 12.40pm and the two occupants were taken to Derriford Hospital, but were not understood to be in any danger.
On Monday a motorcyclist suffered serious leg injuries after crashing into Newbridge, near Callington, and falling 20 feet into the River Lynher. The man was lifted from the river with the help of Callington firefighters and airlifted to Derriford Hospital. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.
l TAVISTOCK fire crew were called to a fire at the disused hockey club premises at Grenville Drive in Tavistock last Thursday.
The incident occurred at 7pm. Damage was caused to the inside of the building, which was due to be demolished. Police are currently investigating the incident.
