THE River Tamar at Calstock will be packed with boats from all over Cornwall this weekend, as the annual regatta is staged.

Activities are planned to start around midday on Saturday and Sunday with racing starting shortly afterwards. There will be plenty for the whole family to do and see with some of the highlights being a timed tractor pull, face painting, tombola, rowing machine races, bouncy castle and all sorts of refreshments, including cakes galore!

A spokesman for the organisers, Calstock Rowing Club, said: Were also trying to get a record for the number of pooh sticks launched this year this is essentially a duck race but with small sticks, they are launched from a boat near Calstock Quay where they meander down-river with the outgoing tide. The first stick through the viaduct wins £50.

Our target this year is to raise enough money to purchase a new flashboat, one that is kitted out and suitable for our youngest of rowers.

We need to raise £6,500 this will pay for the boat, five lifejackets, five cushions, four rowlocks and four oars.

The benefit that this will bring to the club for training evenings and regattas is huge and we wont stop this year until we have it in place for next season.

Anyone who would like to contribute in any way towards the regatta or the flashboat fund should contact [email protected]">[email protected] or visit the rowing club Facebook page, Calstock Rowing Club Annual Flash Boat Regatta.

All money we raise this year is going solely on equipment aimed at our younger rowers, the future of our club. With the right equipment behind them South East Cornwall will have yet another crop of potential county champions, said the spokesman.
