THE doors of St James’ Church in Jacobstowe were thrown open to the public on November 24 to celebrate the recent refurbishment of the church, which was aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Community group chairman Peter Steer thanked those present for their hard work to get the project to its current state.

He said: ‘There are clearly some large and some small details yet to be completed, but at least we now have a community space open to all within the heart of the village.’

Rod Lane, who has helped raise funds and managed the scheme, described the discovery of various stages of construction on the site from as early as the fifth century.
