Love, joy and peace

IT is very early in the morning. It is very dark. Excitement, anticipation and wonder fill the air. Very, very carefully an arm is stretched out. Found it! The flattened silhouette of the Christmas stocking now bulges with bumps. It is Christmas morning and he has come. Father Christmas has come!

Every child knows the best thing about a Christmas stocking is it is never half full. Every child knows the best thing about a Christmas stocking is it is never just full. Every child knows the best thing about a Christmas stocking is it is always so full that the gifts stick out of the top. A Christmas stocking is always full to overflowing.

For Christians this speaks of the true meaning of Christmas. God doesn’t do anything by halves, not when it comes to the Christmas gift of love. God’s gift of love in Jesus overflows to the whole world for all time.

Christmas invites us all to share a child’s sense of excitement, anticipation and wonder at the love that fills to overflowing through the baby who was born that first Christmas.

By grace through faith this same love continues to overflow filling flattened lives with hope, joy and peace. So every day may be Christmas day, for He has come! Jesus has come!
