THREE for the price of one! That's a great triple bill at the Parish Hall, Bratton Clovelly, courtesy of Red Spider Company, the music and drama group based on the villages of Bratton Clovelly and Lewdown.

The Red Spiders will be giving first performances of two plays by local authors as well as singing a lively programme of songs.

The proceeds will be shared with Devon Air Ambulance so it's all in a good cause.

'Grand National Day' by Mike Ingham is a cracking comedy set in an old folks' home. The play is ably produced 'in the round' by Susanne Clayton and, seated in the audience, you may feel that you too are just sitting around the walls all day with nothing much to do.

But all is not what it seems. Mike is renowned for his surprise endings — so watch out.

'Margery of Quither — or The Witch of Brentor' is a spooky shadow puppet play adapted by Ron Wawman from the very best of Sabine Baring-Gould's black humour.

The puppet theatre has been built by members of Red Spider company for use by local children.

The puppeteers, who call themselves The Lew Trenchard Shadows, are all from Lew Trenchard Primary School. When the production is over the theatre will be made available for use by the school in its curriculum.

Since its inception in 1997 singing, both solos and choruses, has featured strongly in all Red Spider productions.

Over the past year the company has made a point of harnessing the enthusiasm of its singers by forming a singing group.

Led by Paul Kemeny, the Red Spider singers will treat you to a lively selection of songs.

As you might expect some, but not all, of these will be from the Baring-Gould collection of folk songs. Paul has mainly chosen them for their humour and for the way they contribute to the atmosphere of the plays.

The Choir, the Witch and the Wager, an evening of drama and music with Red Spider Company, takes place at the Parish Hall, Bratton Clovelly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday March 9, 10, 11 at 8pm.

Tickets: Full, £4, senior citizens £3, children £2 from Bratton Clovelly Post Office, Lew Trenchard School or Colin on 01566 783336.
