THE weather might feel more autumnal than the heat of high summer but a little Californian sunshine lifted the mood at Tavistock College recently when the media studies department hosted its second ?Oscars? ceremony. The event was to celebrate the film-making talents of students in years 11, 12 and13. The glitter and glamour of the evening was further enhanced by the dress code ? students, friends and family, and the staff who presented the awards, all entered into the spirit of the red carpet with posh frocks and tuxedos. The first half of the evening celebrated the animated films made as part of the GCSE Media Studies course. Work from the senior students included atmospheric thrillers, advertising campaigns and music videos. In addition, a special award was presented to teaching assistant Jenny Hunt who supports students in the classroom. Head of departmen, Jane Richardson said: ?Film texts are made for an audience and I can?t think of a better or more spectacular way for students to see their work exhibited than this. ?Thanks to Stuart Hearne?s fantastic visual display the students really feel their work has had its moment on the silver screen.? Winners were: Madeline Barrow and Kathryn Williams; Abigail Maunder and Nadia Moy; James Lowndes and Reese Howard; Sam Elliott and Toby Jago; William Ride and Richard Stephens; Natasha Fiskin; Robert Leeson, Freddie Thompson and Hugh White; Laurence York; Melody Atkinson, Tom Lee and Mat Martin; Blake Thomas; Katie Bennatto; Kate Champion; Beth Selman.
