EARLY on a bright Sunday morning all was quiet in Bere Alston apart from the sound of 19 BATs (Bere Alston Trekkers) preparing themselves for the annual Tavy Seven road race hosted by Tavistock Athletics. This was a record number of Bats for a race and, although many were out to improve their times from last year, there were a number of debuts for this race. Tom Sargeant was first Bat home (37th overall). First lady Bat home and also making her debut for the club was Alison Mears. Pam Adams, although running a string of races for the Bats this year was running her first Tavy Seven for the club as was Sam Gadd. Bridget Macdonald was not only running for the club for the first time, she was also running her first ever race. Bridget also came tenth in her age group (55-59). Overall, there were eight course personal bests (CPB) for Bats, including Laurence Sargeant who was first in his age group and Mary Sargeant who was third in hers. Other CPBs included Kathy Williams and Jane Page who achieved their target of finishing in 60 minutes, and a well done to Adam Smith, John Overnell and Sue Catto.
