East Budleigh 3 South Zeal United 1 ZEAL took the lead after 15 minutes when Lee Gilbert fed Steve Pillivant and his cross was well converted by Harley Cann. Zeal were playing well and could have gone two up when another cross from Steve Pillivant ran into the path of Harley Cann who was then pushed off the ball six yards from goal. Claims for a penalty were turned down by the referee and from that point on Zeal fought a rear guard action to keep their lead intact. Just as it looked as if Zeal would go in at half time a goal up a good move between the home side?s forwards saw them equalise with a well taken goal, then almost on the stroke of half time Zeal conceded another goal when Adam Cann?s punch from a corner was smashed home from the edge of the penalty area. Three Zeal players Gary Smith, Lee Gilbert and Scott Hooper were carrying injuries from the first half. Although Budleigh were on top Steve Pillivant was unlucky not to equalise twice, once from a free kick that the keeper tipped onto the bar and a second time when a great shot from the edge of the penalty area was well saved by the keeper. Reg Wonnacott also went close with a well struck free kick. Half way through the second half the game was made safe for Budleigh when a tired Zeal defence failed to clear and allowed the home side to score from close range. This week Zeal are home to Westexe kick off 3pm.
