PARENTS who are thinking of using real nappies, but are not sure which type to buy, can try one of the free trial nappy kits now available in West Devon.

The kits can be borrowed from any one of the three children's centres in the area. West Devon Borough Council says the kits are available from Okehampton and Hatherleigh, as well as Tavistock.

As well as containing a comprehensive guide on how to use, wash and care for the nappies, an advisor can give parents advice on using the nappies and is available throughout the trial if needed. 

In Devon, a disposable nappy is thrown away every 1.1 second – 28 million per year and equates to 5,600 tonnes of waste which takes hundreds of years to decompose in the county's landfill sites. Using real nappies, even just part time, can make a huge difference to the environment.
