SEE the Tamar Valley from a different angle while raising money for charity by entering the 5th Annual Raft Race ? that is the invitation from the Tavistock and District Mencap Society.
The race, which takes place on Sunday, July 11, will start at Morwellham Quay and finish at Calstock. Morwellham Quay is allowing contestants to build or bring their rafts along for up to a week beforehand.
Anyone needing plastic drums for raft flotation can collect them from Meadowlands Swimming Pool ? but they will only be available on a first-come-first-served basis as numbers are limited. Safety boat cover for the event will be provided by Walrus Marine, Calstock Boat Club and other private vessels.
Contestants are asked to obtain sponsorship to take part, of which 50% can be donated to a charity other than Mencap if requested. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest overall raft, the fastest all female crew, the best dressed crew, the most interesting raft and the most technically innovative raft. All entrants will be sent a certificate on completion.
