A NEW shop selling reusable household goods is to open in Tavistock next Tuesday (May 30) thanks to lottery funding. Devon Furniture Forum (DFF) is opening a new branch of ReFURNISH, a furniture and appliance reuse project, which provides free collection of reusable household goods and sells them at a low cost to local people on low income. David Banks, the manager of DFF, said following the success of its well established Newton Abbot and Totnes branches, with the help of the lottery fund, DFF has opened a new shop in Tavistock. DFF is a non-profit social enterprise, established in 1998 to provide support and advice to community sector furniture and appliance re-use projects. It aims to help alleviate poverty, to reduce waste going into landfill sites and to provide training and employment opportunities. DFF encourages people to donate unwanted furniture, electrical appliances and other household goods, which it collects for free in West Devon. Volunteer opportunities exist in all aspects of DFF and new faces are welcomed.
