A RARE set of 19th century books containing photographs of the moors will go on sale for £600 at next month?s Dartmoor Bookfair in Tavistock.
Dartmoor Pictorial Records, by the archaeologist Robert Burnard, will be just one of the collectors? items on offer at the 3rd annual bookfair, which will be held in the town hall on Sunday, September 7.
Published between 1890 and 1894 in four volumes, the set will be available from the Gerard Brookes of Chagford stand.
The first volume is signed by Burnard and is limited to only 150 copies. The other three volumes are limited to just 200 copies each.
Moreton Books of Moretonhampstead will have a selection of first editions by the popular Devon author Henry Williamson, including two rare, signed limited editions.
Roger Collicott, of Honiton Old Bookshop, will bring the scarce ?first? history of Tavistock, entitled Home Scenes: or Tavistock and its Vicinity.
He will also bring the illustrated Scenery of the Tamar and Tavy, drawn and engraved by the artist Frederick Christian Lewis. Published in 1823, the rare, bound volume will carry a price tag of £1,000.
The bookfair, which is organised by the Provincial Booksellers? Fairs Association, is open between 10.30am and 4pm, and entry costs 75p.
