DOCTORS' practices in Tavistock were pulling together this week to help the Stannary Surgery which has suffered a flood.

Staff arrived at work at 8am on Monday to find the building two inches deep in water. It was later discovered a water heater had burst over the weekend.

Patients are being advised that their appointments may be changed at short notice to an alternative venue. One of Stannary's managers Dene Medland said Abbey Surgery, Wharfside Surgery and Tavistock Hospital were all helping out by providing rooms.

'Patients will still be seeing our clinicians but it may be somewhere else,' she said. 'We have managed to run all but one clinic today (Monday).

'A couple of non-urgent appointments have been cancelled or rearranged but in the main we have been able to carry on by jiggling people around.'

She added that it could take up to two weeks before the surgery returned to normal. Electricians, plumbers and builders had all been on site. 'Until the loss adjustors come in we are not quite sure of the severity of the damage,' she said.
